Chapter Six

His line of questioning had definitely ruined the nice buzz I’d had going only moments earlier. I glared at him as I sucked my drink dry, ending with a loud slurping noise. Then I stood, albeit unsteadily, and saluted him. “Thank you for lunch, boss. I think I’ll go take a swim.”

He watched me go without attempting to stop me. I could feel his gaze burning into my shoulder blades as I stomped off. My pride only lasted a short time and then it was just me and my tender feelings left. My expression reflected on the shiny elevator walls looked miserable. I hated thinking about Tim. It was the only time in my life I’d acted like a lovesick idiot and I didn’t enjoy being reminded of it.

Tim had made a lot of promises and when I’d arrived in Los Angeles, I realized he’d made the same promises to multiple girls around the country. I was the only one dumb enough to act on them and try to meet him. I’d been good and truly Catfished. But as devastating as it had been, I’d hung around Los Angeles because going home to Wyoming had seemed even more embarrassing.

I reached the room and let myself in. Luckily Andrew had been kind enough to slip me one of the room keys when we’d checked in. Otherwise I’d have to sit outside the room and wait for him, and after my dramatic exit that sounded horrible. I remembered seeing two bikini’s in one of the bags Andrew had had delivered. I pulled out the bright turquoise one and went into the bathroom to change. The suit fit me perfectly, but it was a little skimpier than what I would usually choose myself. Way more of my breasts were exposed than I liked and the small bottom left little to the imagination. I promised myself that tomorrow I’d go buy myself a bathing suit more like what I’d normally want.

You dress like you’re a sixty-year-old woman.

Andrew’s judgmental tone rang in my head. “Well, too bad.” I mumbled aloud. “I’m not going to waltz around like a slut because you think I should.” I tugged at the top trying to cover more of my ample boob. “Not as soon as I get a new suit, that is.”

I grabbed a big fluffy towel from my bathroom and wrapped it around my body. Then I got my card key and headed downstairs toward the beach. I knew there were multiple pools on the grounds, but I didn’t want to explore all over the place, so I decided to hit the beach instead. It was late afternoon, but the sun was still warm on my skin. I dropped my towel on a lounge chair that was away from the more crowded area with squealing kids and moved toward the ocean. The wheat colored sand was warm between my toes and I waded into the small waves with a sigh. The water was tepid and the sky so blue it almost hurt my eyes.
